Mission Statement
The Moroccan Association for Japanese Language and Culture (AMLCJ) is a Moroccan non-profit, non-political organization of teachers and students of the Japanese language in Morocco. Its objective is to promote the study of the Japanese language and expand knowledge and appreciation of Japan and its culture in Morocco. AMLCJ was established by Moroccan teachers of the Japanese language in response to the withdrawal of voluntary Japanese teachers from Morocco for various reasons, with the primary one being the COVID-19 pandemic. The association emerged to provide support to Moroccan teachers who stepped in to fill the gap. This coincided with a period of increasing influence of Japanese language and culture, marked by a notable expansion in the number of language centers and students.
The main activities of the association cover four key areas:
AMLCJ oversees the organization of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), providing learners with an opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge and evaluate themselves across different levels. The test offers benefits ranging from academic credit recognition and graduation certification in schools to preferential treatment in businesses and qualification recognition in society.
AMLCJ supervises the organization of the Speech Contest, an annual event that assesses participants’ linguistic and communication skills through short speeches presented before a jury and the public. The contest, now in its 22nd edition, includes various competitions and activities revolving around Japanese culture.
AMLCJ organizes workshops, seminars, and other events targeting teachers, students, or a broader audience. These events may take the form of teacher training, workshops on aspects of Japanese culture (e.g., origami, ikebana), screenings (e.g., films, anime), Japanese language initiation, and more.
AMLCJ creates a database of experienced Japanese language users available in Morocco and establishes connections with Japanese companies operating in Morocco as a valuable resource. This free service aims to provide opportunities for introducing Japanese language students to the job market while offering companies an easily accessible resource for a wide range of services that might otherwise be challenging to access (e.g., translation, interpretation, surveys, etc.).
