About the Website

The Japanese Culture Portal is a free platform designed to make various aspects of Japanese culture accessible to a wide audience.
It is organized into three main sections:

  1. Explanatory Videos
Featuring videos on diverse cultural topics, including those often misunderstood by foreigners—such as keigo (honorific language) or the use of “-san”—explained from a cultural perspective.
  2. Western Works on Japan
A collection of writings by Western authors such as Eliza Ruhamah Scidmore and Lafcadio Hearn, available for free download.
  3. Reading Corner
A selection of Japanese-language books, including traditional folktales and classic stories considered part of Japan’s shared cultural heritage—also available for free download.
